My Fashion Education so far.

Well week 2 of fashion school is done and over with! It is going great and I have found some great girls to be my studious counterparts to pass notes to and laugh when the oddball in the front asks the most irrelevant questions. My current courses are as follows...

Effective Fashion Communications - My teacher is Kerry Moore, who is this rad, get down to business-type woman who has been a hardcore journalist and writer for the past 30 years. She is straight to the point, doesn't give homework and will individually go around and edit our work... or in her words "cut out the fat".

Design Awareness - We get to learn all about the production and fabrication of garments from the dream in the designers head to the finished product on the sale floor. Our teacher is a designer herself who has been very big in the Vancouver community with her special hand made to order knit sweaters. Shes a sweetheart.

Art and Technology - MY FAVORITE FFN CLASS!! The teacher is sweet and basically... we play around with PhotoShop on 27 inch Macs all day while listening to music. nuff said.

Costuming for TV and Film - We have a costuming veteran come and tell us all about what its like to work on a movie or tv set. We like to call it "show and tell" because she is constantly reminiscing and bragging about the good ol' days when she used to work with no name stars such as Angelina Jolie and Katharine Hepburn.

last but not least, my second favorite

Public Relations and Event Production - Our teacher is young and hip and totally cool. She works for a successful PR company out of Vancouver but they deal mostly in LA and New York! Its her PR firm that sends 3 students to NY fashion week twice a year! She is really funny and I think she is going to give a really good insight into the public relations side of fashion!

Needless to say, it has been a great first full week of school and I can't wait to update everyone on all the fun stuff I get to do on my way through fashion school. xx

Now it really starts...

oh hi. its been a while! So I am settled into my new place in Vancouver and loving it! Not going to lie... the Kitsilano fashion scene is laaaacking for a better word but I am most certain I am going to find an area to be inspired by and once I do I will be snapping pics and uploading dem phodos for your viewing pleasure mon! I start schooling to be a professional fashionista in less than a week so I will also be documenting my studies for anyone who cares... I have yet to find a decent place with decent music and decent people but I'm sure they are hiding and maybe the fact that I have only been to the Roxy since I've been here could be a minor problem. I will have everything up and running shortly!! xx

for now I will leave you with my theme song for my new relationship with the city of Vancouver and my constant affairs with surrounding areas such as Whistler and Seattle.

VELLLLLLLLLLVET

The word in itself makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

When most people think of velvet they imagine royalty in the 14th century or, in my case, a terrible burgundy party dress I wore for picture day in the second grade... which I would give my 64 wpm fingers to have in my closet now! Velvet is coming back, it has been for a while, some of the photos I have posted are from a fall 2007 collection. The luxurious texture can make anyone feel like a princess and if you really want to kick it up a notch... get it crushed.

You gotta wear em' anyways...

Tights.
The winter staple in the climate that is Canadian. Unless you want to never wear a dress for 10 months out of the year, a few pair of these must be in your lingerie drawer... or at least somewhere in that bunch of clothes on the floor that accumulates during last minute try-on sessions. Black tights have been all the rage the past few years and honestly... I couldn't imagine my life without them, but I think its time to make tights the statement rather than the staple.
I hate to say it, but the fall season is just around the corner and designers are starting to experiment with unique colors, patterns and textures which are making tights stand out as the feature rather than fade in the backround... and I like it. I have put a little compilation of original and goooooorgeous legwear that I might cry if I don't get to wear this fall! Enjoy!

I smell a one hit (and miss) wonder!!

ahem... I just witnessed this song on Much Mega Hits. I went into temporary insanity with flashbacks of B44 and LFO who have already paved the way for this noise that 'Stereo' plans to pay the bills with. If these pubescants plan on owning even so much as an Iphone... they best be re-thinking their career choices and maybe... learn a trade, invest in gumball machines or become roadies for the Jonas Brothers. grunt.

Ace of Cakes vs. Cake Boss

Ok so... I am a very big fan of watching how things are made, cakes especially. For the past few years I have been an adament follower of Ace of Cakes. It could be the monotone cutie Geoffry Manthorne whos comments ooze with sarcasm. I just cannot get enough of him. I also love all the little artsy geeks that can create and draw the craziest things! Duff on the other hand I could take or leave... but because he values his friends so dang much I do love him as well. BUT now I get back from a year away and there is a NEW show on TLC which goes by 'Cake Boss'. I boycotted the wannabe show for the first few months... but my lack on employment has forced me to watch certain things on the tube that I wouldn't normally. I stumbled across the show and decided to watch one episode, strictly so that I could reassure myself that Ace of Cakes takes the cake (no pun intended). Here is where I reach my dilemma. Kinda liked it... not gonna lie. I love how its a whole bunch of big old italian men yelling at eachother while they make cannolis and cakes. Maybe I'm losing my loyalty to the Ace because I have not seen a new episode in years! All I know is that I am watching Cake Boss right now and chuckling and I am really starting to feel guilty. Duff Goldman get your act together and win my vote back!

Goo Goo Ga Ga

Just a few cool images of the popress.

Happy Birthday J-Bird!!

Wishing Jaime a happy 19th Birthday!! if anyone wants to join in the festivities tonight we will be going to TYC (call us if you want on the guest list, but you have to be there before 10!) followed by a night of dancing at Buffalo Bills. Bule Lagoons and Purple Hazes will be in full force!! Can't wait!! And after that we will go through a Mackers drive thru and then all vommit and pass out on the couch. Tonights gonna be a good night!

Chris Cornell... won't you come... and wash away the rain...

Not going to lie... I was randomly watching Last Call with Carson Daly (forgot that show still existed, I thought it was only re-runs now) and I stumbled across an episode that was full of interviews and performances of Chris Cornell. I completely forgot about how cool and hot to trot he is. Hence... I have dedicated a mini shrine to the sexy man.

note: I remember ALL of Shandy's grade 8 party dancing in her basement to Black Hole Sun... in the dark... me included.

SO DANG CUTE!

SYTYCD UPDATE

So my heart was ripped to pieces lastnight by the votes of America. My beautiful, babyfaced amazing dancer Jason was voted off the show. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU AMERICA?? I mean... Evan is cute and a great dancer but we all know that he doesn't have what it takes to go to the end! Jason was underrated the whole dang show and it really peeves me off. When he shed a tear at the end I was curled up in the fetal position in the corner of my basement contemplating the meaning of life. AND as for the bottom two girls... ugh... we all know Kayla deserves it and she is amazing so vote for so she doesn't get the boot!

I doubt any americans will see this anyways but I just need to vent because sometimes... I just don't know whats wrong with this world.

Goodbye Jason!

Shout Out

Just doing a little shout out to Lake Winnipeg! LW is like the obese red-headed step-child of lakes. Everyone is so dang pre-occupied with LOTW that they forget about the beauty of a big lake, which, on the right night, can seem like an ocean. The latter is my favorite part about it. Its close, its beautiful and here are some images to sway your vote...

well... bad news, Faye (my mum) obviously took all of her beautiful lake photos off the computer and left me stranded here with no evidence... but my argument still stands and I will cough up some gorgeous photes for everyone to see very soon! gah.

I think I see the sun...

Yes. Thats right. I spent the whole night blogging. from 2am to 5am all I have done is try to make it look like something worth reading every once in a while... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

whoops sorry I fell asleep for a moment.

Thats right Tazleema Mae, you best be checking this out because I am going to be one-upping blog style. goodnight.

1995

Honestly, these three girls (well actually just Cher and Dion...) rocked my world when I was nine! Their ludacris vocab and mini skirts were what sprouted my interest in fashion and also sprouted my (impossible to shake) valley girl accent. It made me think that every high school party I went to had a bar and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones on stage. You can imagine how upset I was when I strolled into my first high school Much Video Dance Party, only to find a few milk crates flipped over (aka booty boxes) and a greasy 'dj' playing "Who Let the Dogs Out".

oh Cher... that bitch had everything

Another shout out to the year that gave birth to Yahoo would be this little compilation of various artists. Dee Dee Na Na Na?

I want a Turban, Yes I Do...

I want a Turban, How Bout You?

Rythyms from Down Unda

I have been back from one year of bliss in the land of oz for about 4 months now and I am going through Aussie music withrawal! I love my country and support its culture but this Nickleback and Theory of a Deadman noise that they play on the radio is really hurting my ears. nuff said.
Listen to this band and give your ears the gift of gifts... the (conflict-free) diamond necklace of new and interesting sound... Empire of the Sun.

oh and while you're at it... this one too.

but I think they broke up... but do it.
